AI-readiness for local businesses: the practical checklist
A plain-English checklist for making a local business website easier for AI systems to understand.
AI-readiness is not a guarantee that ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or Perplexity will cite a business on any specific timeline.
It is the work of making a website easier to crawl, classify, verify, and summarize.
The five checks that matter first
- AI crawler access in
robots.txt. - Clear
LocalBusiness,Organization,Service, andFAQPageschema. - A concise
llms.txtfile that describes the business, service area, and contact paths. - Buyer-answer content on service pages.
- Trust signals: real people, credentials, policies, reviews, citations, and dates.
What to avoid
Do not present installation as a results guarantee. AI engines refresh their sources on their own schedules. Treat audits as technical readiness work and measure the site signals you control.
